Robots tend, saw, sand, machine castings

Permanent mold casting cells will use robots for multiple casting tasks such as furnace and casting tending, sawing, sanding, milling/drilling, inspection and machining.

KUKA Robotics Corporation, a leading global manufacturer of industrial robots, today announced it has been selected by CMH Manufacturing of Lubbock, Texas, USA, to provide robots for its new casting total work cell. The permanent mold casting cells will utilize a KUKA robot and are designed to complete multiple casting tasks such as furnace and casting tending, sawing, sanding, milling/drilling, inspection and machining. 'CMH's new total work cell concept is a great tool for manufacturers working towards lean manufacturing,' said Kevin Kozuszek, director of marketing for KUKA Robotics Corporation.

'In addition to the advantage of one cell that accomplishes multiple tasks it also allows casters to have an integrated work cell that can take a part from liquid metal to finished part without employees being exposed to hazardous working conditions.' John Hall, president of CMH Manufacturing said: 'When we were designing the cell we needed the most flexible and highest performing robot available.

We standardized on KUKA robots as we felt they out perform other robotic manufacturer's products for flexibility and performance.' CMH Manufacturing Co is a family owned business located in Lubbock, Texas and was founded in 1982 by Charles M Hall.

CMH produces the Hall line of foundry equipment with special emphasis on aluminum tilt pour gravity die-casting.

CMH offers a full line for casting machines, rotary tables and peripheral work cell support equipment designed around the tilt pour principle.

The company uses the latest in CNC machining and computer aided engineering to meet its customer's needs.
